Wood Floor Refinishing and Feathering

Here’s a recent floor project we did for Andree and Luis. They had some pre-finished red oak floors in their living space, but carpet in several other rooms and on their stairs. They wanted to incorporate hardwood throughout, and we wanted to be sure they wouldn't have any transition pieces.

This is what the space looked like before we got started.

We used a technique called “feathering” to seamlessly bring all the rooms together. We put down new oak in the rooms that previously had carpet and set out to perfectly match the original oak in the living area.

Here’s a photo of that feathering process before finishing. You can see where we have begun feathering in the new wood.

And here’s that same area after we stripped and refinished the entire floor. It has so much more character now, and our clients love it!

And here is the finished floor, complete with perfect feathering into the additional rooms and boasting the new finish!
